Universities Minister receives PRiME briefing

The Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister for Universities and Science, received a briefing on the PRiME Programme at a  Royal Society discussion meeting  in Manchester. The two-day event – ‘Computing for a sustainable future‘ – was organised by PRiME team members Professor Steve Furber, Ian Osborne together with Simon McIntosh-Smith and Dr Andrew Rice, and took place at the Museum of Science and Industry. Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi (PRiME Programme Director), chaired the session ‘Computing at the small – energy efficiency in individual devices’ and presented PRiME’s aims of delivering more efficient computing through smarter algorithms, more energy aware software, and improved power management.

When discussing the event, Professor Al-Hashimi said, ‘Low-power and reliable electronic systems is a key enabling technology to realise the future vision of smart homes, smart cities, smart grid, and smartX, for societal advancements and to the benefits of humankind’.
